Andres' Game of the Week
The first time I heard of Raiders of the North Sea, I was very excited to try it out. When Renegade Game Studios finally brought it to North America, I was very ecstatic.
Raiders of the North Sea is a simple worker placement game in which you are Viking warrior trying to assemble a crew, collect provisions and travel north to plunder provisions and resources.
The game is easy to explain to gamers and newbies alike. I love the unique worker placement mechanic where you have to place a worker from your pool, take that worker's action and then grab a worker off the board to also take that action and add him to your pool. There are different strategies you can employ depending on the type of crew you hire and the locations that your raid. Even if your strategy doesn't pay out, the game offers a fantastic "take that!" element to slow your opponents. Unlike many worker placement game, this one is full of interactions between players.
Add some Celtic, Viking background music to add some flavor to your experience.
